A meeting on the establishment of the packaging and packaging waste management deposit system, organized by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the Association of Pro-Mediu Experts, was held on 20 July.
The aim of the meeting was to establish the platform for dialogue on the creation of the packaging waste management landfill system by analyzing the proposals for legislative changes and the needs, shortcomings and opportunities of the private sector.
Recently, the endorsement of the draft law for the amendment of the Law no.209/2016 on waste was launched, where provisions related to and packaged products regulated by the deposit system – a mechanism to encourage packaging consumers to return reusable packaging or single-use and reusable packaging waste – are to be included.
Lithuania’s successful experience was shared by Mr Gintaras Varnas, administrator of the Lithuanian deposit system, USAD, who presented the logistics and financial flows of a system.
FIA was represented by Cristina Tiscul, Project Manager, together with experts from member companies Efes Moldova, Kaufland Moldova, METRO Moldova, Sandra Ice Cream Moldova, Vetropack.
