The Foreign Investors Association in Moldova (FIA), in partnership with UNDP Moldova, organized on 10 May, the BIOFIN Workshop on “Review of Private Expenditures on Biodiversity (BER)”.
The event brought together UNDP experts, representatives of public authorities, and the business community to discuss key aspects related to biodiversity finance and private sector engagement.
The workshop focused on:
🔹 the presentation of the Policy and Institutional Review (PIR) on biodiversity in the Republic of Moldova;
🔹 the structure and methodology of the Biodiversity Expenditure Review (BER);
🔹 key challenges, opportunities, and best practices related to sustainable biodiversity financing;
🔹 data and insights regarding biodiversity-related expenditures, including the potential contribution of the private sector.
FIA member companies Purcari, Efes, and Premier Energy also shared their experiences and practical examples of sustainability and biodiversity-related initiatives, highlighting the growing role of the private sector in advancing environmental responsibility.
With the support of Danish Industry, participants also benefited from an informative session delivered by a representative of Danske Bank, focused on international trends and approaches to integrating biodiversity and sustainability considerations into the financial and business sectors.
The workshop served as a valuable platform for experience-sharing and constructive dialogue between public authorities, development partners, and the private sector, while also helping identify practical opportunities for stronger private sector involvement in biodiversity financing.
As a practical component of the workshop, participants joined a guided nature hike dedicated to exploring local biodiversity and reflecting on the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.
