Symbolic planting event of the Rară Neagră grapevine - Purcari

At Château Purcari we invited friends for a symbolic planting event of the Rară Neagră grapevine, paying tribute to a variety with a millennial history.

“Rara Neagra is a symbolic variety for the Republic of Moldova, a Romanian variety that has had great success here in the Purcari area. We want to give continuity to this beautiful history of reviving this legendary variety,” said Victor Bostan, Executive Director of the Purcari Winery Group.
The “Rară Neagră protected by Château Purcari” information campaign culminated in a large-scale event on 18 May in the heart of our vineyards. Guests from the most diverse spheres, from art to business, were present and planted 200 Rară Neagră cuttings in the vineyards of the winery. The planting of the cuttings was accompanied by dance and music conveying the tradition of the nation, and by a theatrical play performed in the heart of the vineyard, telling the story of Rară Neagră that dates back to Stephen the Great.

“The symbolic planting of the cuttings that will grow and become part of the Rară Neagră heritage is part of a new project, which will last 10 years, that will allow us to improve this variety, make it healthier, more interesting in terms of agronomic characteristics, so that all Moldovans can be proud of it, to be propagated with full force throughout the country,” said Gheorghe Arpentin, Director of Development, Research and Innovation of the Purcari Winery Group.
