Public hearings on the situation of foreign workers in the Republic of Moldova were held under the auspices of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family, jointly with the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance.
🤝 The event brought together representatives of the business community, recruitment companies, professional associations, and public authorities, who discussed solutions to address the labour shortage and simplify the process of recruiting and employing foreign nationals.
🔎 Among the challenges identified were:
– cumbersome consular procedures and bottlenecks encountered at certain diplomatic missions;
– a rigid regulatory framework regarding accommodation conditions for foreign workers;
– the lack of interinstitutional working groups to develop targeted legislative amendments addressing the actual needs of the labour market.
👩💼 FIA Moldova was represented by Ana Groza, Executive Director, who emphasized that ensuring decent living and working conditions is a key priority for FIA member companies.
The discussions also highlighted the need to reduce bureaucracy in the recruitment of foreign workers, conclude bilateral agreements with countries from which workers are recruited, as well as amend the Labour Code, including provisions related to the process of initiating employment relationships at the workplace.
