Meeting of the WG No. 3 “Attracting and Retaining Private Investments”

Friday 13 February, 2026
Start: Friday 13 February, 2026 -

The Foreign Investors Association (FIA) presented today, within Working Group No. 3 “Attracting and Retaining Private Investments” of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, the 4th edition of the study on the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the economy of the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting was chaired by FIA Executive Director, Ana Groza.

The study provides updated data and relevant conclusions for the 🇪🇺 competitiveness and European integration agenda, highlighting the role of FDI in 🚀 boosting competitiveness, ⚙️ increasing productivity, and 📈 supporting economic convergence.

 Key messages:
– Global context: Global FDI flows declined for the second consecutive year. Europe recorded a significant decrease amid growing uncertainty and economic fragmentation.
– Moldova 2024 – a signal of resilience: Growth in FDI stock is driven primarily by 🔁 reinvested earnings, while 💶 new capital inflows remain modest. This reflects the confidence of existing investors, but also underlines the need to accelerate the attraction of new investment projects.
– EU remains the main source: In 2024, 86% of foreign equity and participation originates from the European Union.
– Strong economic impact: FDI companies represent 5.7% of total enterprises and 13.7% of employment, yet generate 23.2% of total sales revenues.

Higher productivity and wages: Productivity is approximately 74% higher, while the average monthly wage paid by FDI companies is about 93% higher compared to domestic private companies.

Policy direction: The findings confirm the need for a coherent package supporting productive investments:
✅ predictability and regulatory stability
🏗️ modern infrastructure
🎯 reduction of perceived risks
🤝 support for high value-added projects
