On September 19, 2024, representatives of the Association of Foreign Investors in the Republic of Moldova (FIA) participated in the meeting of the National Council for Economic Empowerment and Gender Equality, an event held within the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
The main purpose of the event was the presentation of the Report “Wage Gap between Women and Men in Moldova: Recent Trends and Policy Recommendations”, developed by the International Labor Organization (ILO).
The report provides a statistical update on the gender pay gap (GPG) between women and men in the Republic of Moldova, as well as a review of the existing legal framework and policies to combat gender inequalities in the labor market. In addition, the report offers recommendations to reduce the GPG gap, including the promotion of paternity leave and the reintegration of mothers into the labor market.
Thus, the report highlights that the wage gap is more prominent in the private sector, while in the public sector wages are equal. Globally, the GPG is even more pronounced at around 20%.
In the Republic of Moldova, GPG between men and women varies between 5%-9% (when referring to hourly salary) and between 5%-15% (when referring to monthly salary).
