On 13rd of July, 2016, FIA and its members participated at a meeting with the team of IMF experts, lead by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar. The IMF experts were in a field mission in Chisinau during 5-15 July 2016.
Ms. Hollar specified that even if the mission has a negotiation mandate, there is still a very broad set of issues to be solved before any agreement to be signed with the IMF. The mission was focused mainly on financial sector and structural-fiscal reforms meant to promote economic growth. Given the fact that the banking sector is a critical sector and central to economic development, it will stay as a priority for the IMF. The other two crucial sectors in the IMF view are the energy and judicial sectors.
The head of mission stated that the large number of legal and normative acts recently adopted is impressive, but it is imperative to succeed in implementation of these initiatives.
FIA members raised several issues during the meeting, such as the necessity to: modernize the Labor Code, reform the central administration, reform the judicial sector and guarantee a transparency of ownership and create a strong regulator in the domain of insurance, etc.
